The Fred W. Smith Football Center is an 80,000 square foot building dedicated to the football operations at the University of Arkansas. The project consisted of the replacement of two practice fields with one being on structure, the addition of a coach’s courtyard, the creation of a ceremonial outdoor space to be used for gathering, and the renovation of the existing gate one entrance to the stadium.

The bulk of this LEED Silver facility is subterranean in order to minimize the visual impact of the building. Thus much of the landscape is on structure, making this a large green roof project. The green roofs all meet grade at a flush condition which makes the transition between on grade and on structure seamless and imperceptible. The result of this effort is a large structure which appears much smaller and offers visitors an outdoor venue for celebration.
