Parkway Village Alzheimer’s Housing Little Rock

The Ginny and Bob Shell Alzheimer’s Center is a 30,000 sf facility comprised of 32 apartment units arranged around a courtyard. It is the only free-standing center in Arkansas devoted to caring for people with Alzheimer’s disease. The primary focus of the design was the courtyard. As this is a secure facility, the courtyard is the only outdoor space available to the patients unsupervised. Therefore the space was to be designed to provide a fair amount of variety of experiences. The courtyard consists of a walking loop with seating areas and an outdoor dining area. The planting for the site is intentionally residential in feel with an extended blooming season in order to provide a home like feel and seasonal interest.
