Cossatot State Park is located in western Arkansas. The interpretive trails project consisted of two trails: a paved, ADA accessible trail and a primitive, dirt trail. The challenge in this project was to build a paved trail on a hillside which was not only accessible but also preserved trees very close to the trail . In order to save the trees, the layout was carefully integrated into the terrain and the grades were manipulated minimally. Tree preservation measures involved identifying the extents of the grading and pruning the roots. Two years after construction, only one tree had been lost.

The result of this effort is a trail which appears to have been place longer than it has due to the minimal disturbance to the existing landscape.
